Research and Planning - Prison Break

Prison break is about a male who goes to prison for a crime he hasn't done. This relates to our production as the show relates to crime and violence. It is action filled and thriller related, he is a male who typically associated with crime and violence. Similarly our serial killer is also a male character. Due to it's storyline the audience for the show is 18-35, this is because it contains adult content including violence. Prison Break was broadcast at 8.00pm which is the time we want to broadcast our programme. Males and Females were both interested in Prison break this is because males can relate themselves to the main character especially when he goes to prison. Females were interested in the show because of finding the main character attractive. In 2005-2006 the show had on average 9.2 million viewers. The show is an American show as crimes and violence as such is popular in the United States. The audience automatically like the main character as they feel sorry for him and can sympathise with him in a huge way. Overall, the genre and the themes portrayed in this TV crime drama are very similar to the sort of production we are going to film.

Camera-work
When the opening titles start we see a close-up of a male, this highlights the tense emotion on his face. The use of close-up is perfect for this shot because the audience get to the him in great detail. Before this we see a long distance shot of the building, the use of the building in the opening credits highlights it's importance, the audience start to wonder what this building is. Other shots used in the opening titles are match-on-action and a huge variety of effects such as dissolve, fade and blur.

Editing
In the opening title, the scenes are quick paced, this gives the audience and idea of the type of show it is, when the tattoo is shown in the opening credits it signifies it's importance to the audience, the audience start to think why it's shown and what could be behind it. The shots used in the title sequence are straight shots which makes the audience think in detail what is going to happen next, it also creates tension and and an upbeat mood.

Sound
The sounds used in the opening sequence are digetic, this sound is parallel to the scenes in the opening sequence and fits perfectly with what is happening. The fast paced music and the fast paced scenes go well together as the mood it creates is the same. The music starts of slower and the gradually picks up it's pace just like the opening titles, it starts off slowly and gets faster and faster to when they are running.

Mise-en-scene
The men all dressed in blue are shown in that way to show their status, this is to enable they are prisoners and they are in the wrong. The make character is dressed in casual clothes, shirt with a hoodie on top and then later we see him in a vest, this shows that he's in the wrong he's been up to something, due to him being dressed in not a sophisticated way. The look on his face is innocent but feisty which confuses the audience to whether he's in the wrong or he's simply innocent. By his movement's and his feisty behaviour the audience automatically assume he's done something, that's why he's in prison
