Audience Theory

What do you primarily use the media for: entertainment, information or something else?
- I personally use the internet for information and education. I enjoy reading the news on my phone app, and I enjoy reading OK news which is gossip news. I do not use the internet for entertainment as I am not on any social networking sites but I do own a phone which has 'Whatsapp' messenger which counts as socialising. I use the internet when doing my work for basic research or even when looking up media theory's as nowadays everything is available on the internet. Other media such as the TV, I use as a form of entertainment as when I'm bored that's what I enjoy doing. On the other hand, every morning I watch the news on the TV which includes me using media for education.

To what extent do you feel dependant on the media?
- I believe I am very dependant on the media this is because, I take my phone everywhere I go which shows I can't live without it. If I'm not using my phone I'm using my Ipad, or watching the TV which are other forms of media, this shows that I am very dependant on the media. Sometimes not having the internet limits my chances of doing homework which again shows how dependant I am on the media.

Has my dependence on the media changed over the last 10 years
I think my dependence on the media has changed over the last 10 years, this is mainly due to a broader technology now, 10 years ago phones did not have news app's, there wasn't many social networking sites, and there was no tablets/pads. Over the last 10 years the technology has become more wider in a sense that phones now have apps which have networking sites, you can read the news on your phone, you can find out about the latests trends and much much more.

Explorers Feedback - C+

Feedback -
WWW: In my opinion our power point was good, it covered all the aspects of the what we were asked to do such as print, media and general information about the couple.

EBI: In our powerpoint we could of had less text on the slides and had just bullet points which would of made it easier for others in the classroom to read. Secondly we could of had a less funky background and kept it simple which would again have made it easier for other people in the classroom to read.

The Task
We were given a task, called the preliminary exercise, this was given to us so that we become familiar with using the camera's for our actual media c/w. This involved shooting a 180 degree rule which involved two people having a conversation and a match on action, the exercise was supposed to last about 30 seconds. Our clip was basic, 2 people having a conversation which created suspense and made the audience think about 'what is going on', this also created enigma. We also had 1 person lying under the table and then the clip ended, this was kept short and simple as it was just an exercise task. The person lying on the floor had his eyes closed which automatically made the audience think 'what has happened'.

WWW:
I think our clip was shot well considering this was the first time we used the camera's. We all had a part to play in the clip so that everyone had an equal chance of getting involved, Vinesh was good with camera-work therefore he wanted to shoot, me and Vandna were in the conversation during the start of the clip and lastly Ishan was the one lying under the table. Our media exercise was based on creating enigma which was done well, this was done when Ishan was lying under the table with his eyes closed. The 180 degree rule was used correctly as when me and Vandna were talking and it looked like we were opposite each other, thus meant we broke the 180 degree rule. Before we started filming we decided that we would use (ECU) Extreme close-up, we successfully stuck to our plan and used this shot various times, one of them was when Ishan was lying on the floor and the camera zoom's onto him. During the end of the clip we used a transaction, which was a 'fade' this was used to fade out of Ishan's face and end the clip.

EBI:
When me and Vanda were having a conversation, there was too much space between the two of us, this was due to the table being bigger, there was also images/portraits in the background which meant that audience could loose focus and concentrate more on what is in the background rather than the two people having the conversation. For our actual coursework we will take in consideration that having things in the background could loose audience focus. Secondly the lighting in the room was not good, therefore it made Vandna's side of the room look darker and made mine look much brighter. The lighting issues made the clip look un-professional

Film Language Test..0

21st October 2013 - We had our film language Test on the movie, The Usual Suspect. We were shown a certain clip from this movie 3 times before we got time to answer the 4 questions. Each question was out of 12 and the exam as a whole was out of 48. The 4 sections that we had to answer were, Mise-en-scene, camera-work, sound and editing.

The main mistake I made in my exam was not answering the questions in order, this confused the person marking my exam and made it hard for him to understand what question was what. Another thing I could improve on was my time management, this could of helped me organise my work better. For next time I will revise before the exam so I am sure of everything.

Teacher's Feedback -
www: You actually make plenty of good, relevant points but you made a critical error..
ebi: You did not clearly number/mark each question, this made it very difficult to grade and it is vital to avoid this in a real exam.
- Next time, you need detailed notes and then clearly numbered answers. Aim for at least 3 paragraphs for each question.
- Try and use more media language and make sure you answer the question that is given.
